The Prefect System, Leadership Roles and Committees
Prefect System
The Prefect System
The prefect system consists of two Head students and Deputy Head students, supported by a team of Senior Prefects and Prefects. These students make a valuable contribution to the school community, support events, leading the Student Parliament and a range of student committees.
All students are encouraged to apply for prefect positions in Year 12 and are selected through a recruitment process that considers the opinions of peers, staff and the senior leadership team.
The prefect term of office runs from Easter in Year 12 for one year.
Leadership Roles and Opportunities in Sixth Form
Sixth Form Leadership
Beyond the academic rigours of their studies, students are encouraged to undertake leadership and volunteering activities to support the school and wider community.
In-Lesson Support
Year 12 students provide support for younger peers on a one-to-one basis in a subject of their choice at least once every two weeks.
Paired Reading
Sixth Form students support Year 7 students who need extra support with reading and literacy skills.
Primary School Support
As part of the Enrichment programme, students work with our local primary schools, supporting both whole classes and individual students.
Volunteering outside School
Students are encouraged to complete 50 hours of volunteering activities throughout Sixth Form to further develop their personal skills and prepare them for life beyond school.
Student Parliament
Student Parliament is run and chaired by the Sixth Form Prefect Team. Students are elected to represent their peers at the Student Parliament on an annual basis. The student representatives have a level of responsibility, representing the views and opinions of their peers.
Minutes of Student Parliament meetings are carefully considered by the Senior Leadership Team, ensuring student voice influences the strategic development of the school.
Environment Committee
The Environment Committee works together to meet the objectives of the Eco-Schools global programme. The committee raises environmental awareness and seeks to identify strategies to help the school reduce its carbon footprint.
